Add participants to a Competition

The roster is what rounds, matches and standings are built from. Add it once, correct it whenever reality changes, and reuse people you already have.

What this does

A participant is whatever competes: one player, a pair or a team. Each participant can hold one or more members, and a member is the person who may later sign in and see their own matches.

Adding a participant does not send anything to anyone. Invitations are a separate, deliberate step — see invite participants into the app.

Before you start

  • The Competition exists and has an open Season.
  • You know the participant type you chose at creation. A doubles Competition expects pairs, not individual players.

Steps

  1. Open the roster

    Go to Participants in the Competition. The header shows how many are registered in the current Season, so you can check the count against your own list before scheduling anything.

  2. Add a new participant

    Use Add participant and fill in the Participant name. For a pair or a team this is the side's name; for singles it is the player's name. The name is what appears in fixtures, results and the table, so keep it short and recognisable.

  3. Reuse someone who already exists

    If the person already played in another Competition of yours, use Choose an existing participant instead of typing the name again. The list separates who is available from who is already in this competition, so you cannot add the same side twice by accident.

  4. Correct a roster entry

    Edit participant fixes a spelling or a changed team name everywhere at once — past fixtures included. Use Remove from competition when a side withdraws; it takes them out of this Competition without deleting the person from your league.

    Remove a withdrawn side before generating the next round's schedule. Otherwise the generator will keep proposing fixtures for a participant who is no longer playing.

  5. Import a long roster (Pro)

    For a large league, Import participants from CSV takes the whole list in one pass, matches people you already have, and reports every warning and skip before anything is written. CSV import is a Pro feature; on Free, add participants one at a time.

What happens next

With the roster in place you can create the first round — see create and manage rounds. Standings appear once official results start arriving, and every participant you added shows up in the table from the first round onwards.
